Our Story
S.M.I.L.E. Facilitation Services was born from a shared passion for education, advocacy, and meaningful change. Founded by Patricia Thomas and Dr. Cortina Peters, our organization is rooted in a longstanding commitment to serving individuals with compassion, dignity, and purpose.
Patricia and Dr. Peters first crossed paths more than 20 years ago while working in the education department at Planned Parenthood. From the beginning, they recognized in one another a shared belief in the power of education, empowerment, and meeting people where they are. Both were deeply committed to advocating for individuals who often felt unheard or overlooked and that passion laid the foundation for what would later become S.M.I.L.E. Facilitation Services.
After years of taking different professional paths and gaining extensive experience in education, clinical practice, and community-based services, their journeys came full circle. A chance reconnection, sparked by a mutual colleague and former graduate school classmate, reunited them with a renewed vision. That moment became the catalyst for creating a space where compassion, accountability, and growth could truly thrive.
At S.M.I.L.E. Facilitation Services, we believe that people are more than their circumstances. Our work is grounded in respect, empathy, and evidence-based practices that support meaningful change. We are deeply committed not only to the individuals and families we serve, but also to the professionals who make our work possible. Our team is hands-on, supportive, and invested in creating a culture where both clients and staff feel valued, empowered, and heard.
Above all, we believe in second chances, personal growth, and the power of human connection. Every person who walks through our doors matters and we are honored to walk alongside them on their journey toward healing, accountability, and transformation.
